Antithesis, by definition, means the contrast or opposition between two things. Black and White. Night and Day. Good and Evil. But antithesis can be interpreted much further than just two opposite things. The philosophical theory of Thesis - Antithesis - Synthesis, made popular by Hegel, argues that without the antithesis there can never be synthesis. In other words, without opposition, without something challenging the original idea, there can never be progress.

Growing up, my parents called me the Antithesis. I was the one who would bring up the other side of an argument, do things that were out of character just to see what it was like, and always made light of dark or unfortunate situations. Some people believe that the idea of being an antithesis is pessimistic, cynical or conflicted. I believe it’s optimistic. It’s the idea that experiencing heartbreak allows you to know real love. It’s realizing that everything bad that happens to you comes with something equally as good and that you always have the opportunity to improve. It’s empathetic. It allows you to see someone else’s point of view. It helps you understand that no one is truly good or bad, that everyone is doing what they think is right according to their own circumstances. It’s honest. It’s knowing exactly who you are because you have taken the time to figure out what you are not. It’s owning your flaws and your beauty because you appreciate the importance of both of them in constructing who you are.

Antithesis doesn’t just depict who I am as a creator but what I create. My work incorporates negative space, lots of black/lots of white, juxtaposition of elements, and out of the box creative direction. It allows you to reach your goals as a brand or individual by clearly communicating who you are, grabbing attention, and maybe even making people say what the f***.
